Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary extends over the Thodupuzha and Udumbanchola taluks of Idukki district, spreading over 77 sq.km. and is about 450-748 m. above sea level. It is one of the most alluring and flora-and-fauna-rich wildlife sites in Kerala. Animals like elephant, bison, sambar deer, wild dog, jungle cat, tiger, and wild boar are plenty here. The sanctuary is home to various snakes, such as cobra, viper, krait, and numerous non-poisonous snakes. colorful birds like jungle fowl, myna, laughing thrush, black bulbul, peafowl, woodpecker, and kingfisher are seen in this area.
