Bolghatty palace, built by the Dutch in 1744, one of the oldest existing Dutch palaces outside Holland, later became the mansion of British rulter, situtated in Bolgatty island in Kochi, west to Ernakulam. The Palace is a popular tourist attraction in Kochi. The palace was residence of the British residents to Travancore and Cochin and was the object of a military attack by the Travancore Navy under Chempil Arayan. Today, it is run as heritage resort by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. The Resort has a swimming pool, 9- hole golf course, ayurvedic centre, International Marina and daily kathakali performance and it is a holiday destination for national and international tourists. There is in a temple dedicated to Shiva that is first of its kind in Kerala.
